April Cisrow Burnette Obituary

Ms. April Cisrow Burnette

On a beautiful winter day, February 16, 1970, Curt E. Cisrow and Gloria J. Cisrow welcomed into the world a daughter who would grow to mean so much to so many. From the very beginning, April was grounded in faith, love, and strong values. She carried those with her throughout her life, often reminding those around her to “trust God” no matter what came her way. On March 31, 2026, surrounded by that same faith, April made her way home.

April was educated in the Clarke County School System and graduated from Cedar Shoals High School. She continued her journey at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and later Cambridge College, preparing for a life dedicated to education. April poured into her students with patience, care, and intention, helping shape young minds in both elementary and middle school classrooms. She ended her career at Statham Elementary, a place she truly loved and where her presence will be deeply missed.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a member of St. Paul CME Church, April served faithfully as a pianist and a devoted member, always willing to give her time and heart to the work of the church. She believed in showing up, serving others, and doing what she could to make things better for those around her.

April was also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and a Legacy Member of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated. These organizations were an extension of who she was, a woman committed to service, sisterhood, and uplifting her community.

Above all, April was family. She was a loving and devoted mother to Jabari Uhuru Burnette and Corey Alexander Johnson, and she loved them with everything she had. Her life was centered around her children and her family, including her beloved Corey T. Johnson. She shared a special bond with her sisters, Gwendolyn Larvette Cisrow Hall (Coronis), Cathy LaChelle Cisrow Evans, and Amy Nichole Cisrow-Peterson, known together, with love and laughter, as “The Rats in the Barn.”

April found joy in the little things that made life beautiful. She loved her orange, her jewelry making, traveling, and especially being near the water. The beach was one of her happy places, where she could relax and just be.

She leaves behind a legacy of love that lives on through her children, her family, her nieces and nephews, her church family, her sorority sisters, her colleagues, and

all those whose lives she touched along the way. To know April was to experience her warmth, her strength, and her steady faith. Her journey here on Earth has come to a close, but her story does not end here. The same God she trusted all her life has called her home, and we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace.

April made it home.
